  • Here's my two cents. I agree with a lot of what Stuart says (including the need to undermine oneself), but I'll add this: it's all very well and good to have ambition, to work your arse off, to channel all of your energies to becoming a writer or director. But remember this: if that is all you do and live and breathe, will you actually have anything to say? There are many directors who make their first feature at a relatively young age. How many of these films are fuelled by the desire to be a "filmmaker" Make sure you balance your ambition with some interaction with the real world, with some life experience. If it means taking your time, so be it. It'll be worth it if you're the real thing. I learnt (and am still learning this) the hard way.
