Australian New Wave

Excerpt from ane -mail I'm writing to Matthew Clayfield of esoteric rabbot:

It seems that everyone I meet from our generation of filmmakers agrees with the notion that we need an australian new wave. By agree, I mean its like a "FUCK YEAH". A zeitegist is forming like flies around shit. For the new wave to actually happen it will require a lot of hard work, but I do have faith that in the next 5-10 years we're going to see a (r)evolution in the Australian film industry. Why? Because it *has* to happen - our industry is facing death. The collapse of the US dollar and the Governator's pro-American policies are going to end the US subsidisation of the Australian industry. Our post houses are being forced to consolidate staff and facilities (they're buying each other out and 'rationalising' staff) and the Asian post infrastructure is growing from strength to strength, so we're losing that aspect of the industry. The only market we're going to have is ourselves. Yet, somewhere over the last two decades we forgot to make movies Australian's want to see. That will change out of both necessity and opportunity.

  • The problem is also marketing. We have no idea.
We need to watch The Simpsons episode about Gabbo. You put a teaser out there with enough punch, people will come and see anything.
Then you have to make sure you deliver.
