The Meme™
ONE (1) earliest film-related memory:
The Death of Optimus Prime in Transformers: The Movie.
Even if it was just an excuse to sell more toys, killing off The Icon of the Transformers™ in the first act took big brass testes*. It was traumatic. I may have cried. Then again, I cry in everything.
Sure, I was 25 but that's besides the point.**
* Points if you can spot the quote.
** I'm lying. No, seriously. I was like five.
TWO (2) favorite lines from movies:
"You know Burke, I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them fucking each other for a goddamn percentage."
-- Ripley in Aliens (1986). You want dialogue containing the essence of the entire theme? Right there baby, right there.
Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.
-- Harry Lime in The Third Man (1949)
THREE (3) jobs you'd do if you could not work in the "biz":
Thinker for a Think Tank. I'd talk shit all day, call it scenario planning, and\ get paid for it. Brilliant.
Academic. Probably in the emerging field of ludology (the study of games) as its new, fascinating, and uncharted.
Musician. Game soundtracks, probably. I've got the combination of music producing skills and arranging skills to appeal to that market. I'm not a good enough musician to write 'concert pieces' and my vanity pieces are too just too obsfucated for pop music. I've always been told I'm good at doing moody stuff.
FOUR (4) jobs you actually have held outside the industry:
In reverse chronological order:
Producer of Medical & Dental audiovisual training materials.
English Tutor.
General Assistant at a Radio Station.
Office Temporary.
THREE (3) book authors I like:
David Foster Wallace
Tom Stoppard.
Warren Ellis.
TWO (2) movies you'd like to remake or properties you'd like to adapt:
Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan. Its a wonderful, sprawling, layered, bleak and twisted epic of the future... and I'd keep it that way. It shouldn't be a movie but an epic TV series. E P I C.
A Genghis Khan bi pic. I don't much about his life, but I have this image in my head that just wants me want to make it:
---
FADE IN:
White. Silence.
We get closer. We can see the texture of the ice now - a massive FROZEN LAKE. There's a sound, growing louder - gentle rhythmic SWOOSHING.
A figure SHOOTS past. And another -
Its an ARMY of THE HUNS - sliently slithering across the ice, rapidly apprroaching a small village.
---
(Something like that, I just wrote that then, so yeah, forgive me or don't and give me the $300 million I'll need. )
There's another historical property I'd love to develop but I'm keeping it quiet as I'm pretty serious about doing it, eventually.
ONE (1) screenwriter you think is underrated:
All screenwriters are underrated, except the ones who suck.
THREE (3) people I'm tagging to answer this meme next:
Dave (I was going to say both, but the Grubber One has been tagged).
Matt.
Xander.
I'm also taggin Craig Mazin cause I like being disappointed - it helps ossify my balls into being big brass testes.
