Anyway. I've been, rather flatteringly, tagged by Nick of Digital Poetics to respond to the Movie Meme.
So here I go:
01. Total number of films I own on DVD and video:
I'm away atm, but if you're talking about films, then its around 60 or 70, if you include TV shows then its closer to 150 (I own 7 seasons of Buffy, 4 seasons of Angel, 1 season of Firefly, 1 season of Arrested Development).
There also the movies and shows I haven't paid for... but we'll ignore them :)
02. Last film I bought:
Last DVD I remember buying was Arrested Development. Honestly, don't recall the last movie I bought. However, I plan to purchase In the Mood for Love upon my return to Sydney. That film is an utter masterpiece.
03. Last film I watched:
I watched A Series of Unfortunate Events on DVD on Saturday night after coming home from seeing 2046 in the cinemas.
04. Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no alphabetical order):
Transformers the Movie - I probably watched this film twice a month from the ages of 5 till 8. I still know every word.
Bladerunner - An influential film in me beginning to appreciate film as art. Its one of the earliest movies I recall seeing. I was around 6 or 7? It was a Friday night and my parents suggested I watch it (pscyhos!) And it scared the bejesus out of me.
Aliens - This defined a lot of my early teen years. It was a bit of cult favorite in my group of friends. Having recently watched it again for the first time in a few years, it strikes me how well made an action movie it is. The script, acting, coverage, and pacing are tight. That it is a metaphor for the vietnam war - and the notion that victory is in surviving rather than winning - just seals the deal as it being a great directors-as-smugglers film.
Fight Club - This film is defining my early to mid 20s. It nails young adult male feels of futility. That is a beautifully crafted film just seals the deal :)
I'm not sure what the fifth would be. There a lot of contenders: Starship Troopers for being both stupid and submersive; Lost in Translation for its ennui; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for making me want to fall in love; Dead Man for being a metaphysical western; Before Sunrise/Before Sunset for just being so goddamn emotionally true; the Three Colours trilogy - need I say more?; Princess Mononoke... and there are so many more.
05. If you could be any character portrayed in a movie, who would it be?
I'm passing on this one for fear it may incriminate me.
