blimps are cool

Two down, only two more to go...

... and I'll have finished my LLB, perhaps (if I'm lucky and don't fuck up) with Honours. Neato.

Also, it turns out that Julia Stiles is a very smart girl. Her defence of Mona Lisa Smile's gender politics is very intelligent:read it here. She also reads the Guardian, which is very impressive for an American...

She also support Amnesty International and MoveOn.org and plays Soccer! Things you learn from reading her official webpage. What a wonderful reminder that smart can be sexy. (If only I figured that out in the 8th Grade! Hehehe).

Its damn cool to see a beautiful woman be proud to be smart but in a really non preppy way.

One day, when I have my own official website run by someone thats not me, mb she'll blog about me? "Oh, go read that article written by Stuart Willis on [topic for rent]. He's a really smart guy and he manages to be stylish and sexy! He's like David Forster Wallace meets Russel Crowe meets Cary Grant!"

I can dream, can't it?

Digital Agenda Amendment Copyright Review

Last year, Philips Fox conducted a review for the Attorney Generals department. On a whim, I decided to submit one of the papers I had written for my IP law course. It was incorporated into the review. Nuts. pg 23-25.

Their criticisms of me is fair, if only because I didn't write the article for them. It makes me consider rewriting it for publication.

Heh. Anyway. I feel all proud now. I guess i can say I'm a leading expert on piracy now! Hehehehe. Looks like they covered anything that anyone submitted though. Still.....

A Scanner Darkly

Finally, after development hell, A Scanner Darkly is in production.

So far this is what it has going for it:

1. Robert Downey Jr being cast is genius.
2. Keanu Reeves I'm not so sure about... but I'm damn sure that...
3. Richard Linklater will get a good performance from him. Use Keanu's foppishness [heh] to his advantage.
4. Its a reaking rotoscoped animation like Waking Life. I like it. Its a story about the barriers of reality, about people... and it stops it looking like a cartoon (like SW) and lets it BE a cartoon but with real human emotions.

Totally killer.

COMPETITION!

I'm running a competition. Write me a profile (about me, duh) for an online dating service. You know the type: description, interests, hates, personality summary, looking for, weird ass habits (eating off knife is probably one of my least pleasant).

The winner will receive a date with me, 2nd place will win two dates, 3rd place will win three.

Hahhaa. No. But I am serious.

send me profiles to stuartprofile@biki.net

GO NUTS.

(I won't use it till I'm 40 when online dating sites are guilt free... I promise!)

Kelly on Fincher

Thanks to Damo for typing this up... Excerpt from an interview with Richard Kelly (of Donnie Darko fame):

"When you first saw the music video for Aerosmith's 'Janie's Got a Gun' you rang up MRV's office and asked who directed it. How old were you then and why did you do that?"

"That was 1989 and I was fourteen years old. I saw the video and I thought "That person has a vision. That's a movie, I want to see that movie." That was in the stage of my teens when all I was doing was watching MTV. I had never seen a video that told a story. It was better crafted than most movies I had seen and I was taken aback by it and I wanted to know who created it."

"At that point they did not have the director's names on music videos so I called up the MTV offices and got ten different recordings and finally got someone who told me it was David Fincher and then they hung up on me. And then I found out that he was doing the third Alien film, which freaked me out because the first two Alien films were my favourite films of all time. I thought, "Well, I'm glad someone else saw something there."

"And despite the troubles he endured, I think Alien3 is a vastly underrated film. I hear that Fox is going to release his original cut on DVD."

(Damn straight! Although, they released the workprint which ain't what you would call an 'original cut' unless you think a rough cut qualifies as original before studios get all interfery)
