Why do Australian Movie's Suck?
They suck because the writers suck, the actors are mediocre (unless you get them before they go to Hollywood) and the directors have no vision (unless you ... oh, you get it) and low budgets. They suck because the whole artistic sensibility of this lousy country is FUBAR. It is FUBAR because intelligent visionaries avoid the Arts. They avoid them because they have no role models. Update:
I saw Suburban Mayhem last night; which some [cough Movie Show cough] are calling the best Australian Movie of the Year. If this is our best movie of the year, then we have problems. Yes, its good - but not great. Hell, I'd say that the movie's poster is its own best critique

... it's a comic book movie with pretentions of sophistication. Fun - with some layered performances - but empty. It confuses having nothing worthwhile to say with being intelligently ambiguous. Maybe that's the point - for all her 'tude'n'sex'drugs and (apparent) love for her brother - Katrina is as empty as a hurricane: all force, no substance.
